First of all, thank you to everyone who made Word Out! 2009 happen: the TPL staff, the authors and creators who gave their time, the celebrity guests at the BATTLE OF THE BOOKS, and most especially the teens who joined and contributed. We didn't quite reach 4000 comments, but we came pretty close. :)
So what happens here until 2010?
Great news!
We ended up having some extra cash in the budget as we neared the end of the summer, so here's what's being done:
Hey Word Out-ers,
The Toronto Public Library staff responsible for Word Out this year are already planning for next year, and your feedback is important to us.
If you could find the time to take the end of summer youth survey it would help us out in our planning for next year.
Update: End of summer survey is now finished. Thanks to all who gave feedback!
Alan H. is a web librarian at TPL. He would like to see a movie about eating beans starring George Wendt. If a teen gets that reference it will help him not feel quite so old.
Hey Word Out-ers,
A quick anecdotal survey (our higher-ups are interested):
Wake author Lisa McMann gave a shout-out yesterday through Facebook to the BATTLE OF THE BOOKS launch event, where Wake was the audience favourite. Wake will be our featured fiction book next week.
Lisa is in Arizona, which is quite far from Toronto, but the Internet makes everything local. Thanks Lisa! :)
Our colleague Susan K (the responsible member of the Word Out! team who didn't leave her camera at home) took so many good photos of the BATTLE OF THE BOOKS that we ended up making a Flickr gallery for them.
Just a quick note to say that my (riveting and compelling) live reporting from the BATTLE OF THE BOOKS has been updated with some new photos of our three amazing teams. More photos coming soon.
Most of the information is already up, but here's the practical details of how the prize draws for Word Out! will work, now that we've "officially" started (although with over 300 comments received to date, it feels like we're already going!):
