This is the website of Word Out! 2009, Toronto Public Library's 2009 teen summer reading program. The program has ended (as has the summer), but feel free to have a look around--we had lots of great book recommendations, many authors and other creators generously gave their time for interviews, and hundreds of teens offered their opinions and recommendations as well.

I'm a big fan of Mariko Tamaki's books, so I was super excited when she agreed to do a short Q&A with me for the Word Out! Blog about her latest graphic novel Emiko Superstar.  Mariko is also the author of the highly acclaimed graphic novel Skim, illustrated by her cousin Jillian Tamaki.

What We Read Last Week - August 17

I read Robert B. Parker's The Boxer and the Spy last week, a hardboiled teen mystery by a writer who's been writing mysteries for quite some time longer than I've been alive and has polished the craft to perfection.  Highly enjoyable, fast read!

Graphic Novel of the Week for August 10: Zot!

In this collection you will find the complete black and white issues of the Zot! series volume 11-36.  I admit that I was not captivated by the storyline or the main characters, superhero Zot and his girlfriend Jenny, but I did like the artwork.
