The information on this page relates to the 2009 Word Out! teen summer reading program, and is no longer up to date or being maintained.
So now you're aboard for Word Out! 2009. What do you do now?
- Read books (well, duh). You can read anything you want--the booklist is only our suggestions
- Comment on the blog posts. We'll be posting a Fiction Book, a Nonfiction Book and a Graphic Novel of the Week, and at least one general post a week (including a "What Did You Read This Week?" post). Please be sure to use the same email address you gave when you joined the program when making comments.
- Some of the participating branches will be holding events and contests of their own during the summer. Check with your local branch. You can also register at a participating branch to read down your library fines.
The most basic guideline is "treat people with respect". More specifically, comments containing any of the following will be removed and appropriate action taken:
- Swearing
- Personal attacks (including, but not limited to those that discriminate against other users on the basis of sexuality, ethnicity, or religious background)
- Threats
- Pick-ups or cybersex (this is a reading program, not a dating service)
- Posting porn or links to porn
- Posting of commercial advertisements (this doesn't mean no funny commercials from Youtube, it means we're not interested in hearing about your products and how we should buy them)
- Posting or requesting of personal information (including, but not limited to, names, email addresses, postal addresses or telephone numbers)
- Posting by adults over the age of 20 (except the Word Out! team)
But Wait, There's More
Not only is contributing to Word Out! good for you (promotes dental health and personal hygiene, along with reading enjoyment), contributions increase your chance to win fabulous prizes.
Everyone will have a chance to win no matter what their level of contribution, don't worry, but we've got some prizes set aside for the people who will really make Word Out! happen--you.
