Graphic Novel of the Week for August 24: Groo - Hell on Earth

Book cover

Groo: Hell on Earth by Sergio Aragonés and Mark Evanier

Dear sweet Groo is a truly misunderstand graphic novel character. He is written by Mark Evanier and Sergio Aragones.

He is kind of like the three stooges of dimwitted Barbarians and he has been facing adventure after adventure (well kind of messing things up as well) for over 30 years now.

This latest instalment has Groo and his faithful dog Rufferto facing a new kind of enemy: Global Warming. Groo spends his time in the novel trying to come up with ways to educate the people about the dangers of global warming and how they can make changes in their lives in order to help stop it.

Along the way Groo meets with his adviser the Sage and he has many mishaps and adventures that keep the reader laughing as they go. Groo's quest even has him creating an army in an attempt to stop the enemy that is global warming.

All in all Groo is a delightful and funny read that should entertain those who already are familiar with him and should help to acquaint some new people to his brand of attempting to save the world.

Jr. Mint is a youth librarian with the Toronto Public Library who loves reading and writing, but never has enough time to do it.

awww....this looks like such a cute book from the illustrations! and Groo seems so cute, with his little dog Rufferto

Maybe he should join forces with Al Gore and together they can save the world :D

lol, the cover looks so funny!

=) looks good!

The front cover of Groo and the story of barbarians is reminding me of the French comics, Asterix. Asterix's friend, Obelix also has a little doggy named Dogmatix, who help them in their adventures in long-ago Europe. I like how both of these comics are simply funny, but have underlying serious issues...that we can choose to ignore ;P

This looks like a good book.

=)looks like a good book :);) lol hahahahahhahhahahahahahahahaha

@Tuna: Ah, "Asterix et Obelix"!! Love those silly guys! We got to read one of those comic books in French class a couple years ago -- that was fantastic!

very good ! I like it
