Graphic Novel of the Week for August 10: Zot!

Book coverZot: The Complete Black and White Collection, 1987-1991 by Scott McCloud

In this collection you will find the complete black and white issues of the Zot! series volume 11-36.  I admit that I was not captivated by the storyline or the main characters, superhero Zot and his girlfriend Jenny, but I did like the artwork.

The only comic books I read growing up were the Archie comics and this was a very long time ago.  Although I didn’t find the series interesting I still recommend it, especially if you are a follower of McCloud’s work.

If you would like to learn more about the creation of comics/graphic novels, check out Scott McCloud’s book Making comics: storytelling secrets of comics, manga & graphic novels, the Toronto Public Library has several copies.

YAY! FIRST TO COMMENT, AGAIN!!! X )
this book looks AWESOME..
i would love to read!!!

Speaking of Archie, I used to love reading them too. Now I moved on to manga somehow.

I read a lot of graphic novels, though most of them are the japanese kind.
...And what's with the 'first to comment' thing?

i love reading graphic novels and i'm really looking forward to reading it!

looking forward ot read this graphic book. It looks kinda intresting, but still cant wait

@kiu I agree...they should recommend some good Japanese manga or Korean manhwa (Bride of the Water God was recently made into English format). But I don't mean any of the horrid Tokyopop stuff...0__0

Nice cover...seems intresting

i took out that book last week.

The art work in this book is so awesome! Have u seen it? The story line looks gud, too.

You should read the "Fruits Basket" series. It sounds stupid, but they are the best graphic novels. The story line and the characters will keep you hooked. The only downside is that there are 21 books total, but the longer you read them the more attached you'll become.

Oh, and the author is Natsuki Takaya.

My bad, 23 books. The graphic novels are so good that Fruits Basket won the award for Best Manga at the inaugural American Anime Awards in 2007. It's about romance, comedy, and adventure, with an amazingly woven plot and story line.

The artwork looks pretty good. I used to read the Archie comics but i haven't in a while. I don't know why though.

great novel i finished it one day its pretty interesting for me to read it. my brother also liked it well he hasent read it but im ganna make him to read and he has to like or elas

i love this book its soo good!!!

wow, i havent really read all that many graphic novels, but i definitely think this one might be worth a read. thanks for the recommendation! :)

Scott McCloud is a fantastic graphic novelist! The way he combines light, dark, space and shapes is amazing. I read his other book, Making Comics a while ago, and he explains the movement and logic behind graphic novels really well, for example, the use of empty spaces between panels to create a sense of a flow of time, or the reader's use of closure to make sense of the events happening off the panels. Plus, he has a great sense of humor. It's a great read and I really recommend it =).

I just finished reading this book, and I think it's pretty good. The artwork is really good though. Overall, I thought it was pretty good.

I love manga. This is next on my reading list. Currently I read Boys Over Flowers, Hana Kimi, Furuba, and Shojobeat magazine.

and Archie comics. Forgot to mention that.
Is anyone going to TCAF next year?

What's TCAF?

TCAF is the Toronto Comic Arts Festival http://torontocomics.com/tcaf/

Was held at Toronto Reference Library this year, I went and spent way too much money.
