What We Read Last Week - June 8th

The program doesn't officially start until July 6th (although you wouldn't know it by the amount of posting we're doing), but to warm up to hit the ground running I'm going to post weekly about books I read last week that teens might be interested in.  I encourage any teens (or TPL staff involved with Word Out! or teen services) to do the same in the comments!

I read two great teen novels last week that were extremely different:

Book Preview - Week 1 (July 6)

The complete booklist for Word Out! 2009 is already available, but we'll be providing some additional information about the chosen books in the weeks leading up to our official start date of July 6.  And the librarians who selected the books (it's not all done by computers!) will be making longer posts about their selections during the eight weeks of the program starting July 6.  Rumour has it some of the authors may even be joining in too...

Welcome to Word Out! 2009

Welcome to Word Out! 2009, Toronto Public Library's summer reading program for teens.

While the program's official start is July 6th, registration will be open soon to join the program.  You can also get an early start on your summer reading with the featured books of Word Out! 2009.

Registration will make you eligible for weekly prizes while the program runs (July 6th - August 30th), including the grand prize drawing in the concluding week of the program.

The Word Out! team would like to emphasize that this program is participatory in nature--we want to hear from you about teen summer reading (and teen reading in general), not just talk at you about it. :)  There are ways to contribute and additional prizes for active contributors.  If you'd like to get a head start on comments, they're open on this post--let us know your summer reading plans, or what you're hoping Word Out! 2009 will be.
