Tasty Tomes Winner!

August 28, 2012 | Thomas Krzyzanowski | Comments (0)

Harry Potter CookbookWe had lots of delicious entries for our final Win a Book contest, where we asked you to tell us about  your favourite food description in a book. J.K. Rowling's writings of magical meals proved to be popular, and our winning entry from M.P. talked about some of their favourite discussions of dinner from the Harry Potter Series:

J.K Rowling puts a lot of food scenes in his books! I like the one where the students at Hogwarts drink pumpkin juice, and butter beer, she describes them so much! Even in the hunger games!

Congratulations, M.P! We'll be sending you a book shortly for your prize-winning entry! Those of you with eReaders might want to check out The Unofficial Harry Potter Cookbook for more culinary inspiration.

Thanks to everyone else who participated! Remember, there's still one more chance to win a Word Out prize this summer! Enter our end-of-summer survey and tell us what you liked (or even what you hated!) about Word Out this year, for a chance to win an eReader.

The BeatlesThanks to all of you who submitted an entry for our Win a book - Loud Literature contest! We had some great entries, and we're happy to announce our winner!

Sabrina let us know how much of a fan of the Fab Four she was, when she wrote to let us know about "The Beatles" by Hunter Davies:

Despite not exactly being apart of the audience that comes to mind when you think of the Beetles, I have always idolized John Lennon! Since as long as I can remember I've always been a Beetles fan, and like many I could make the claim I'm their biggest fan but in truth I’m more likely to be their youngest fan. This is why my absolute favourite book about/with a featured musician is "The Beetles" by Hunter Davis.

So, thanks Sabrina for your awesome entry, and to everyone else who submitted to the contest! Remember, Word Out fans, there are still a few prizes to be won this summer, so send in your entries!

Trilogies. Series. We love them for the extended involvement with a story, the familiarity of the characters, the way one character can have several adventures or one very satisfyingly long quest. But at the same time... they drive us nuts. Trying to get our hands on the next one in the right order, or even worse, waiting for it to be published!  How many times have you been waiting for that next one when you really, REALLY wanted it in your hands right. now?

Such wicked intentLuckily, those of you who have read or are planning to read This Dark Endeavour won't have to wait for the second part, because it was just published on Sunday! I really enjoyed the first part, so I'm feeling very lucky that I was able to get hold of an advance copy of part two, Such Wicked Intent, and I'll be talking about it later this week! For one of you lucky people, though, getting it won't be hard either, because we're going to hand one right to you.

Yep, it's a contest!

So here's the deal -

Tell me what series has kept you waiting impatiently for the next installment. (Just one entry each, please!)

I'll pick a winner by Friday night, so get your answers in by Thursday (August 16th) at midnight, and be sure to include your email address when you reply, so I can let you know if you've won.

Can't wait to hear your answers!

Win a Book #3 Winner!

The outsidersThe winner of a book for telling us about their saddest story is....

...(Drumroll please)....

ADDY! Congratulations for telling us about how sad you thought The Outsiders by S. E. Hinton is.

The Outsiders by: S.E Hinton. This was definately one of the saddest books I ever read. All throughout the book; Johnny Cade lived with an abusive family and no one to love him, other tha his friends or "gang", and would sometimes wish he was dead. He died saving children from a fire and explained to Ponyboy, that "He didn't want to die anymore."

Thanks for your entry Addy, and to everyone else who let us know about the sad, sad stories they love to read. Remember! There are lots more contests this summer, so keep checking back to Word Out for your chance to share your thoughts, and maybe win a prize or two!

S-walter-stewart-library-01So what does that "S" stand for? We know that this is the question that's been haunting you for the last two weeks, so we've decided to spill. The S. in S Walter Stuart stands for...

SPURGEON!

(No, we're not kidding).

Congratulations to Danielle who correctly identified the S and was chosen by random draw.

Also, congratulations to Brian, who came up with the winning creative/funny answer, for suggesting that the "S" stood for Super Fly Walter Stewart. Brian, we'll be taking your suggestion to the next library board meeting.

Way to go winners! Everyone else, remember that there are tons more excellent contests for you to enter over the summer! So keep those creative juices flowing and maybe you'll win a prize or two yourself!

My Curved Border

Thanks for entering for the Toronto FC tickets. A winner has been selected at random and will be contacted! Congrats.
