We had lots of delicious entries for our final Win a Book contest, where we asked you to tell us about your favourite food description in a book. J.K. Rowling's writings of magical meals proved to be popular, and our winning entry from M.P. talked about some of their favourite discussions of dinner from the Harry Potter Series:
J.K Rowling puts a lot of food scenes in his books! I like the one where the students at Hogwarts drink pumpkin juice, and butter beer, she describes them so much! Even in the hunger games!
Congratulations, M.P! We'll be sending you a book shortly for your prize-winning entry! Those of you with eReaders might want to check out The Unofficial Harry Potter Cookbook for more culinary inspiration.
Thanks to everyone else who participated! Remember, there's still one more chance to win a Word Out prize this summer! Enter our end-of-summer survey and tell us what you liked (or even what you hated!) about Word Out this year, for a chance to win an eReader.

There are some seriously talented and imaginative writers out there who participate in Word Out! We were blown away by all of your entries for the Use Your Paranormal Imagination Contest, where you were asked to describe a way for vampires to be created and killed.
Choosing a winner was no easy task, but at the end of the day, we decided to award the prize to Rrrrrrr, for their amazing short story about Katie. Congratulations! You'll be recieving some prizes shortly!
You can check out Rrrrrrr's entry after the break. Remember, there's still one more chance to win a prize, by entering our end-of-summer survey to let us know what you thought of Word Out this year!

So what does that "S" stand for? We know that this is the question that's been haunting you for the last two weeks, so we've decided to spill. The S. in S Walter Stuart stands for...
SPURGEON!
(No, we're not kidding).
Congratulations to Danielle who correctly identified the S and was chosen by random draw.
Also, congratulations to Brian, who came up with the winning creative/funny answer, for suggesting that the "S" stood for Super Fly Walter Stewart. Brian, we'll be taking your suggestion to the next library board meeting.
Way to go winners! Everyone else, remember that there are tons more excellent contests for you to enter over the summer! So keep those creative juices flowing and maybe you'll win a prize or two yourself!

Thanks to everyone who participated in the Imaginary Interview contest. I had a delightful time reading all the entries and it's going to be difficult to choose a winner. But stay tuned - the winner will be announced shortly.
I must confess to being ABSOLUTELY humbled by the creativity and quality of the imaginary interviews that I received! Many of you, I suspect, have a writing career in your future.

So the hot, hazy, lazy days of summer have finally arrived! Time to let your mind and imagination free to drift, explore and speculate.
So let's pretend you have 1 minute to speak to a fictional character (could be your favourite but it doesn't have to be!) you have encountered in a book at some point.
- who would it be?
- what would you say?
- how would you communicate (phone, texting, astral projection, whatever)?
Remember, for purposes of this contest, we are living in the realm of imagination so the possibilities are endless! One entry per person please.
Contest ends midnight Friday July 13 (I hope no one is superstitious!)
