Final Group of Prizes Drawn, Winners Contacted

The final round of prizes has been drawn, including the end-of-summer grand prizes, and all winners have been contacted.

Congratulations to everyone who won, for this round and throughout the summer.  And double congratulations to everyone who participated by joining, making comments and making videos, whether you won a prize or not.  Collectively you've helped create great discussions, book reviews and fun throughout the summer.  Myself and the other Toronto Public Library staff working on Word Out had a blast, and we hope you all did too.  See everyone next summer.

Goodbye Until 2011!

We've reached the "official" end of Word Out 2010.  We'll be closing commenting on all other posts shortly, but will leave the comments on this one enabled for a little while longer for anyone with a final farewell, book recommendation or otherwise.

First, much thanks to:

• Participating authors who gave their time and thoughts to the program
• All the TPL staff who blogged and supported the program in their branches
• Most especially, our teen commenters throughout the summer!  You're the ones who really made this happen.

Secondly, remaining prizes (including the grand prizes) will be drawn shortly and winners contacted.  I'll make a post to announce when this is done.

Third, here are the credits (indeed a stupid web trick); I recommend listening to your favourite piece of fast music that's about 1:30 long--I like The Comedian's Gallop for this purpose.

Party Invitation: So you think you can dance?

I have to admit that the blog’s title is misleading because I wanted to get everyone’s attention by using the popular show name!

Sanderson library is going to host the end of summer Word Out wrap party on Wednesday, August 25 at 2pm. Not only will we have food and prizes, we will have a gaming station setup so you can play.  Come and join us on August 25 at 2pm and don’t forget to bring your friends. If your local library is not Sanderson, you are still welcome to come. We’re located at the South-East corner of Dundas and Bathurst.

Word Out Events!

Just a reminder that you can find out about Word Out events at Toronto Public Library branches in the programs listings of our main website.  There's still a lot going on even with the summer more than half over!

Graphic novelist Adam Bourret at Bloor/Gladstone branch on Saturday, August 28 from 2:00 - 4:00 may be of particular interest, since I know a lot of you are (like me) big fans of graphic novels.

Alan H. is a web librarian at Toronto Public Library.  There are apparently things happening off the Internet now and he wishes someone had told him earlier. :(

Zombies are infecting the Vampires

I’m a huge zombie fan.  One of my fellow Word Out bloggers spend many a night watching zombie flicks and talking about other undead literature.  In fact, I love zombies to such a degree that not only do I help organize the annual Toronto Zombie Walk, but I've also adopted the habit of typing in horror-speak to most of my fellow fiends (friends).  Examples:

Fiend - friend
Ghoul Day- Good Day
Meating - Meeting
Sin-searly - Sincerly
and on and on and on. 

Typing in horror relies a lot on puns. Campy?  Absolutely, but I love that stuff.
