Dr. William Pietro, Faculty of Science and Engineering, York University, will discuss how nerve cells communicate in the human brain through chemical messengers, and how molecules designed to mimic these natural substances can be used to treat depression, schizophrenia, eating disorders, etc. Principles of drug discovery and pharmacology will be discussed using the action of street drugs as an example.
