Frequently asked questions

Here are some answers to frequently asked questions we’ve received.

  1. Why are masks optional?

Toronto Public Library follows Toronto Public Health and provincial guidelines and directives on masking. Currently, we strongly recommend masking for anyone in a Toronto Public Library building, but there is no mandatory masking requirement.

  2. Will I be charged late fees if I return my item late?

Good news! We’re happy to announce that Toronto Public Library will permanently end late fines for everyone, which will remove a barrier to access and make the library more welcoming to all Torontonians.

  3. Can I pick up holds for my family or friends? Can someone else pick up my hold(s) for me?

Yes. If you are picking up holds on behalf of other people, you will need to bring their library card(s).

  4. Can I drop off book donations?

Yes, we are accepting donations. Please review donation guidelines for further details.
