Want to start a  book club, or just need a boost for your existing group?   Seasoned Book Club Leaders, Ellen & Jane can help you.

These two saavy librarians have been running The North York Central Library Book Club for many fun-filled years and have read/talked about all kinds of books from literary fiction to best-selling chick lit. Ellen & Jane will customize their presentation and help clubs be the best they can possibly be.

Recently, Ellen & Jane shared their expertise with a Book Club made of 11 or so grade school teachers.  They call their group "Books & Bitching" ... or was it "Bitching about Books"??   Either way Jane said, "I think the name kind of fits as they really seem to enjoy discussing work as well as the books they've read."

The B&B Club contact, Toni, told Jane that the group wanted show and tell.  What they really needed was for Ellen & Jane to lead the group since, Toni said, the group had fallen into the habit of talking about everything else but the book they had chosen.  The book the B&B's had chosen for this meeting was  Luck by Joan Barfoot.

When Ellen & Jane started up the teachers all spoke at once.   Ellen said, "We had to lay down the law and stress Rule #1 of a happy book club - One speaker at a time... everyone gets a chance share their opinions about the book."   The discussion was lively and those who managed to read "Luck" enjoyed the author's analysis of creativity, grief, love and friendship.   As Ellen & Jane were getting ready to go the group decided their next book would be an extremely popular bestseller called The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern.

The B&B book club already makes great use of Library resources such as book club sets.  They also asked for a list of suggested titles so Ellen & Jane took along a handout of favourites read over the years by the North York Central Book Club.  You will find this soon at our website under the Find your way to your next great read - We recommend.
