Perhaps you know this quotation from William Morris, the nineteenth century English artist, writer and designer:

"If you want a golden rule...this is it: Have nothing in your houses that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful."

You might want to keep these words in mind if you are planning to do some spring cleaning, embarking on a decluttering project or planning to downsize to a smaller home.

Organizing, simplifying and downsizing are certainly buzzwords these days. If you are among those hoping to improve your life by simplifying your surroundings, there is no shortage of advice available, from books, magazines and websites to coaches and consultants.

Thinking of downsizing your home - or helping a parent or friend take on this challenging project? Come to the North York Central Library on Tuesday evening, June 14 for a presentation by Gail Shields from Downsizing Diva.

Gail will explain that downsizing projects need not be stressful or overwhelming. A clear plan, patience and a sense of humour help make the process of sorting through accumulated treasures a manageable experience.
