Funding cut to Southern Ontario Library Service and Ontario Library Service North

We are very concerned about funding cuts to Southern Ontario Library Service (SOLS) and Ontario Library Service (OLS) North and the impact on services to libraries across the province, including the interlibrary loan of books between different library systems.

SOLS and OLS North are two provincial agencies separate from Toronto Public Library (TPL). The cuts do not directly impact TPL service, with the exception of our interlibrary loan service.

The cuts have resulted in SOLS suspending their coordination of the provincial interlibrary loan service until the end of May. As a result, we are currently assessing the impact to our interlibrary loans (loans of library materials not owned by or missing from TPL collections), as are other library systems within the SOLS/OLS North network.

TPL customers are still able to place holds on TPL materials for delivery at their branch.

ABOUT TORONTO PUBLIC LIBRARY
Toronto Public Library is the world's busiest urban public library system. Last year, we had 17 million visits to our branches and 27 million virtual visits. Torontonians borrowed 30 million items in branches and online.
