Cameron Bryant Appointed to Toronto Public Library Board
We are pleased to announce Cameron Bryant's appointment to the Toronto Public Library Board as a citizen member. Bryant attended his first board meeting on May 28 at Toronto Reference Library.
Specializing in real estate law at a mid-sized consulting firm, Bryant holds a BA Honours Specialization in History from the University of Western Ontario, a J.D. from Osgoode Hall Law School, and was a visiting student at Trinity College, Dublin. He previously worked for a large international law firm in Toronto. He has been involved in various community initiatives, with a focus on LGBTQ+ groups, including Out on Bay Street and Give A Night for World AIDS, and is a travel writer on Toronto for the Spotted by Locals app. He enjoys the arts, travelling, the Toronto food scene, and genealogy.
We asked Bryant to tell us what he is most looking forward to as he begins his term, and about his favourite aspect of TPL:
" I am most looking forward to figuring out creative ways to keep innovating the TPL and find ways of reaching under-served communities. The library has been doing a great job of expanding its repository of knowledge by diversifying its public offerings- be it the excellent Criterion collection film database, the Virtual Reference Library with its historical maps, photographs and other offerings, and many more! I look forward to working with my fellow board members and the Library administration to find ways to diversify the TPL's offerings and be the primary resource for knowledge in the city.
"I love that the library brings in such fascinating speakers for talks, debates, panels and lectures. I have seen so many great speakers both in person and online through the Library's YouTube channel - Roxane Gay, Jonathan Safran Foer, Chris Hadfield and the [Next 100] Series, just to name a few. It's such a privilege to listen to literary giants and fascinating figures, and I'm always grateful to the TPL for those opportunities!"
