This October, Toronto Public Library (TPL) and agency partners celebrate 14 years of Library Settlement Partnerships (LSP). LSP expands TPL’s newcomer services by offering settlement support with multilingual workers at some library locations, in partnership with 7 local settlement agencies. LSP is funded by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada

Throughout the pandemic, LSP has provided ongoing access to remote settlement services, and the service is now gradually returning to select TPL branches across the city. To keep everyone safe, no drop-in service is available at this time. Please make an appointment with a settlement worker for one-on-one help. Settlement workers are using Personal Protective Equipment, acrylic shields installed at LSP desks, and regular cleaning takes place. Don’t forget your mask or face covering when you visit us, even if you’re fully vaccinated. If you’re not feeling well, please stay home.

LSP Week

On October 21, 2021, join TPL in celebrating LSP Week! LSP Week is an annual celebration of the successful program. This year, to help keep everyone safe, LSP Week will be celebrated online, and the special event is scheduled to overlap with Ontario Public Library Week (October 17-23, 2021). All are welcome to participate.

Each year, LSP Week has a theme. This year’s theme, “We Belong,” invites us to bridge understanding across all groups, celebrate inclusion, and promote a sense of belonging for all.

Citizenship Judge Suzanne Carrière

Our special guest presenters are Citizenship Judge Suzanne Carrière, who will discuss the importance of newcomer contributions to Truth & Reconciliation, and Aqua Nibii Waawaaskone, who will share traditional, contemporary, and original hand drum songs and stories. All are welcome to attend. Register for this free event on Eventbrite. We look forward to seeing you there!
