Grandad's Pride by Harry Woodgate. 2023. Ages 4-8. + ebook
When Milly discovers an old Pride flag in her grandad's attic, she is inspired to organize the very first Pride celebration in his village. This book gently highlights the meaning of Pride and shows how a diverse community can contribute to creating a wonderful celebration.
Pride and Joy: A Story About Becoming an LGBTQIA+ Ally by Frank J. Sileo, illustrated by Emmi Smid, 2023. Ages 3-7.
After her brother and his boyfriend are bullied by a neighbour, Joy learns from her mother about what it means to be an ally for 2SLGBTQ+ people and decides to hold a bake sale to raise money. But when the bully neighbour returns, Joy pushes past her fear and summons the courage to stand up to him.
ABC Pride by Elly Barnes & Louie Stowell, illustrated by Amy Phelps. 2023. Ages 3-5.
Using the classic ABC picture book format coupled with bold, colourful illustrations, this book introduces the youngest readers to the celebration of Pride and the concepts and words associated with the 2SLGBTQ+ community. Includes discussion questions to give parents the appropriate tools to spark further discussion.
The Rainbow Parade by Emily Neilson. 2022. Ages 4-8.
Excited to attend her first Pride parade with her moms, Emily is amazed by all the loud, proud and colourful people packing the street. When Emily's moms suggest they join the parade route and walk as a family, she is worried that she’s not fabulous enough but then realizes it’s best to celebrate Pride as yourself.
The Night Before Pride by Jessica Wexler, illustrated by Jeric Tan. 2021. Ages 4-8.
Inspired by the classic 'Twas the Night Before Christmas, a parent is awoken in the middle of the night to discover that someone magical has visited – the Pride Fairy brings wishes of hope, love and equality. This book can inspire a festive new tradition where parents and kids write letters to the Pride Fairy the evening before their city's Pride celebrations.
