New and Noteworthy Picture Books March 2023
We are dedicated to bringing the best and brightest books to our library collections! Here are some picture books we are really excited about that will be hitting shelves soon. Looking to stock up for March Break? It's a great time to explore the library, and picture books are just one of the reasons to visit.
Remembering Stone by Carey Sookocheff (ages 3-6)
Alice keeps a special skipping stone to remember her grandfather who passed away last winter. She brings the stone to show her classmates during Show and Share, and soon after the stone goes missing. Will Alice ever find the stone? How will she remember her grandfather? A gentle story about grief, loss, and friendship.
Naming Ceremony by Seina Wedlick, illustrated by Jenin Mohammed (ages 4-8)
It is Baby Sister's naming ceremony! Friends and family gather to help give Baby the perfect name – will big sister Amira choose the perfect name? A story rich with tradition.
Silver Linings by Fiona Woodcock (ages 4-8)
Pip and Parker live next door to each other and are such good friends that sometimes they don't even need words to communicate. What happens when someone makes a mistake or when one friend is feeling blue? An adorable friendship story that celebrates the importance of empathy and staying positive.
Umbrella by Beth Ferry, illustrated by Tom Lichtenheld (ages 4-8)
Despite the dreary weather, a little girl and her dog take a risk to go outside to endure the rain, only to discover something magical that cheers everyone up. All it takes is one good idea to spread a little kindness!
Manolo and the Unicorn by Jackie Azúa Kramer and Jonah Kramer, illustrated by Zach Manbeck (ages 5-7)
Manolo believes in unicorns. When the Wild Animal Parade is announced at school, Manolo tells his classmates he is dressing up as his favourite animal. The classmates insist that unicorns aren't real, crushing Manolo's confidence. A story about self-esteem, perseverance and believing in oneself.
