Marlon Bundo: A Picture Book Face-Off
On the March 18 episode of HBO’s Last Week Tonight, host John Oliver announced that staff writer Jill Twiss has written a picture book called A Day in the Life of Marlon Bundo. The story follows Marlon, the Bunny of the United States (BOTUS), as he falls in love with another bunny named Wesley.
The story was written as a response to Marlon Bundo’s A Day in the Life of the Vice President, a picture book written by Charlotte Pence, the daughter of U.S. Vice President Mike Pence. The Vice President is well-known for his anti-LGBTQ stance.
Both books have been off to a strong sales start. As of this writing, A Day in the Life of Marlon Bundo (that's the Oliver book) sits at number one on the Amazon bestseller list; Marlon Bundo's A Day in the Life of the Vice President sits at number five. The early lead clearly goes to the Oliver team, whose book sold 180,000 copies in the first two days.
All of the proceeds from A Day in the Life of Marlon Bundo will be donated to two non-profit organizations: the Trevor Project and Aids United.
Both books are on order at the Toronto Public Library.
