“What is the smartest province in Canada?” asked Summer Reading Club online member peekaboo1 in the Jokes section of the website. Answer: “Newfoundland and Labrador! It has 4 As and a B!”

Canadian humour is a bit like this joke – earnest with a dash of flat-out silliness. These elements also make a great picture book even more special, because books that bring laughter are an effective way to interest kids in reading. Tickle the funny bones of reluctant readers and they’ll want to keep flipping pages and laughing!

Check out some of these humourous Canadian picture books.
