It's a sad day in the children's literature world. Author Anna Dewdney of the famed Llama Llama series has passed away.

Kids and parents alike come into the library quite often asking for the Llama Llama & friends books by name. As a friend of mine put it, many parents owe happy bedtimes to Llama Llama; the tale of Baby Llama’s struggles to get to sleep at bedtime have brought calm and humour into many toddler's bedrooms. And as far as picture book series are concerned it was definitely one of the best.

After reading her obituary I was interested to learn that Netflix is producing an animated Llama Llama series that is due out in 2017. But with more than 10 titles in the series, which have sold more than 10 million copies, is it any wonder?

Anna Dewdney of course did more than just the Llama Llama series. Below are some other titles of hers available at Toronto Public Library:

NoL1 NoL2 NoL3

She will be missed. Her obituary in Publisher's Weekly reports that in lieu of a funeral service, Anna requested that people read to a child instead. What a gem, a real literacy advocate right to the end.
