It blew great guns on the lake last night. The fresh wind, which prevailed from the southwest all day, increased in velocity during the evening, until at midnight it was blowing with almost a tornado’s strength, and the seas ran eight and ten feet high. About two o’clock the wind shifted into the west and blew harder than ever. Towards daybreak it veered into the northwest, and is now coming down in angry squalls.
