Summer is here and for many people that means one thing - it is time for a vacation! Whether you are planning on staying close to home or heading on a plane to destinations unknown, the library can be with you for every kilometre of your journey.

I'm one of those people that loves the pre-trip planning almost as much as the trip itself. If you're like me, hopefully some of these wonderful resources from the library will help make travel preparation even easier!

Travel Books on OverDrive

Planning your trip or want a guidebook for your vacation? Our collection of travel books available through OverDrive includes titles from publishers such as DK, Fodor's, Frommer's, Lonely Planet, Moon and Rick Steves. Make sure to download the Libby app on your phone or tablet so you can easily carry around a digital travel book and save some more room in your luggage for souvenirs!

Prefer to take the physical book with you? Browse the latest travel books in our collection.

Moon Rocky Mountains

Moon U.S. and Canadian Rocky Mountains Road Trip by Becky Lomax

Covering sights and cities from Calgary to Denver, this is all you'll need for a summer road trip through the majestic Rocky Mountains. Includes national parks in both countries, such as Banff, Yellowstone and Glacier.

Tokyo Like a Local

Tokyo Like a Local by DK Eyewitness

City guides like this one are great for uncovering the gems that most guidebooks don't have the space to include. This series from DK Eyewitness has guides for cities ranging from Nashville to Berlin.

Sustainable Escapes

Sustainable Escapes by Lonely Planet

Whether you're trying to travel with the planet in mind or just looking for some travel inspiration, this guide features a wide range of vacation ideas with a focus on sustainability. With nearly 180 locations featured, there is something for everyone!

Mango Languages

Looking to pick up some basic vocabulary before you start your trip? Mango Languages will get you ready with courses in more than 70 languages. The app is simple to use and perfect for being able to learn on the go.

The Great Courses

The Great Courses might not seem like a source of travel inspiration, but they have some wonderful videos on places all around the world. The Great Tours series has courses ranging from Washington DC to the African Safari. Looking to do some armchair traveling? Check out Understanding the World's Great Structures, The World's Greatest Geological Wonders, or Exploring the Mayan World.

The best way to access these is through the Great Courses Bingepass from Hoopla. This will allow accessing hundreds of courses using only one checkout! The Great Courses are also available from Kanopy, where one checkout gives 30 days access to a single course.

Want to be able to talk with the locals about current events or find out the latest hot spots? PressReader has newspapers and magazines from over 100 countries that will help you learn all about your destination. The PressReader app even allows for offline reading - perfect for long drives or flights.

Travel the World with Your Library Card

Looking to get access to all these wonderful resources? Our website has all info you need about getting a new library card or renewing an expired card. If you're going into a branch, be sure to ask the staff to point you towards the travel book section while you're there!
