It's a great time to brush up on a skill or learn a new one. Gale Courses offers instructor-led online courses on a variety of topics -- free with your library card. Take as many courses as you want, whenever you want, as there are no limits. Courses run for six weeks, with two new lessons released every week on Wednesday and Friday. New sessions begin every month. Note these are not credit courses.

Courses cover:

  • Computers and Technology - all skill levels from beginner to advanced on specific applications, programming, database management, graphic and multimedia design, networking and web technology
  • Career and Professional Development - includes courses relating to accounting, business, entrepreneurship, management, writing and sales
  • Personal Enrichment - courses relating to digital photography, arts and personal finance

Getting started is easy. You will need a valid Toronto Public Library card. The creation of a personal account is also required.

The courses include lessons, quizzes and assignments. Each lesson is accompanied by an interactive discussion area where you can post a question to the instructor. You can take a quiz as many times as you like but you can only take the final exam once. If you take the final exam and get a passing score of 65% or higher, you can download a certificate of completion.

Check out the library's eLearning page to learn about other online learning resources.

There is definitely something for everyone. Let the learning begin!
