Getting Started with Medici.tv
Medici.tv is a streaming video collection of live and on-demand classical and jazz music concerts, operas and ballets. Medici.tv also includes access to master classes by leading musicians and music documentaries. Medici.tv is available in English, French, Spanish and Russian.
What you need
- A valid Toronto Public Library card
- A computer, tablet or smartphone
- An internet connection. Using cellular data is not recommended as streaming multimedia content consumes a lot of bandwidth and may result in data overage fees. Free wireless internet access is available at all Toronto Public Library branches.

Signing into medici.tv
- Go to www.tpl.ca/medici
- Click on Access Online
- Enter your library card number and PIN
Browse or search medici.tv
Browse the homepage or one of the categories (concerts, operas, ballets, documentaries, master classes or jazz). Select the magnifying glass to search by artist, composer or works.
When browsing, use the filters to refine results by various preferences such as composers, performers, periods, instruments or directors. Options vary by category.
Upcoming events
List of recently recorded and upcoming live events streamed from concert halls, opera houses, festivals, and competitions. You can add event reminders to your calendar (Google, iCal or Outlook) or get an email reminder.
Watch Medici.tv streaming video
After selecting a concert, ballet, documentary etc., use the toolbar at the bottom of the video to play/pause, rewind 10 seconds and change the volume. Use the options on the end of the toolbar to access settings, picture in picture and full screen mode options. If using Chrome and a Chromecast device is on your network, the icon will appear here as well.
Subtitles are available for some performances, documentaries and master classes. If available, click on the Close Captioning [CC] icon in the toolbar to see the list of subtitle language options.
Navigate through different sections of the performance using the program list on the right.
Create a medici.tv account.
Save your favourite concert, documentary or master class videos, view your list of previously viewed videos and subscribe to the weekly newsletter by creating an account.
Select Log In then Register. Enter a valid email address and create a password. For details on creating and using an account, have a look at How to use the individual account for library users guide for using the Individual accounts slide presentation by Medici.tv.
Medici.tv EDU app
The medici.tv EDU app is available for both Android and iOS devices.
- After accessing medici.tv through www.tpl.ca/medici, select Log in and sign in with your medici.tv account.
- Download the medici.tv EDU app to your mobile device. The EDU app is different than the regular medici.tv app used by individual subscribers. The regular medici.tv app is not compatible with the library's subscription.
- Select a video and enjoy!
Customers using the medici.tv EDU app will need to access medici.tv through the library and log into their medici.tv account every 180 days.
To use the medici.tv EDU app to cast:
- After installing the app on your device and signing in with your medici.tv account, make sure that both your tv (or chrome cast, apple tv, or any other device you wish to cast the movie on) and your phone are on the same network.
- Choose the video you wish to cast, and you will see a small icon appear in the top right corner.
- Tap on the icon. You should find your television listed. The video should start playing on the screen.
