Are You a Human 'Book'?

July 14, 2011 | Soheli | Comments (0)

Last year, Toronto Public Library launched a new series called the Human Library - with a great response! The Human Library offers a chance to walk in someone else's shoes - someone right in your city with a unique story. Check out this article on BlogTO describing one experience at the Bloor/Gladstone branch.

This year, we're bringing it back and Cedarbrae is one of the lucky library branches hosting it. We're also the only Human Library branch in the east end of the city.
Are you a human 'book'?
Although the event itself is still a few months away (I'll blog more about it closer to November), it's time to start thinking about what kind of a 'book' you may turn out to be. Do you have a particularly interesting life story that you'd like to share? Maybe you've travelled extensively, or survived a natural disaster...or maybe you just immigrated from another country. Whatever the scenario, it may be something worth sharing. Get yourself caught up on what the Human Library is all about and apply to be someone's next great 'read'!

I'm looking forward to seeing what kind of mystery novels, adventure stories and more will end up at Cedarbrae later this fall...

Prepare for your citizenship test this summer at Cedarbrae!

July 13, 2011 | Soheli | Comments (0)

We've received a lot of questions about citizenship preparation courses here at Cedarbrae, so I'm sure this news will be long-awaited for many:
The dates are set for our summer session of citizenship preparation and all you need to do is register!

The session begins on Tuesday, August 9 (3:30 - 5 PM) and carries on to Tuesday, September 6.

(The complete set of dates are: August 9, 16, 23, 30 and September 6.)

Please remember to bring proof of landed status (ie. PR card) to the first session. Registration is required to attend, so give us a call to put your name down: 416-396-8850. We only have spots for the first 25 people registered, so if you're planning to take the test soon, don't wait too long to call!

Safety

Are you concerned about your safety online? If so, we would like to invite you to join our special computer class about security issues and safe browsing online. This class will be presented in easy-to follow format, specifically designed for adults and older adults.

Cedarbrae Library, Monday July 11, at 2 pm. To register, please speak to the librarian at the Upper Level or call the branch at 416-396-8850. You also might want to register for our other computer classes!

This program is generously offered by IBM volunteers as part of IBM's Centennial Year celebrations in its effort to promote computer services to our community.

Welcome! This blog is written by the Cedarbrae Library staff and we want it to become a place where you can find out what's going on in the branch and in the community. But not just that - we plan to write about all things we might find interesting.
