"Nothing is certain in life except death and taxes" - Benjamin Franklin

Inevitably, our favourite time of the year has come around again – tax season! Whether you're a seasoned professional who can get through your tax filings in a single sitting, or you're dreading the idea of filing taxes on your own for the first time, it's good to know that Toronto Public Library provides various programs and services to help you along the way!

The deadline for filing your 2017 tax return is for most people April 30, 2018. There's a few exceptions to this deadline which you can find on the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) website.

Many library branches throughout the city host income tax clinics for low income individuals, at which volunteer professional accountants prepare personal tax returns for individuals who meet specific eligibility criteria. You can see a list of some of the included locations but it is not a comprehensive list by any means. It's definitely worth your time to contact your local branch and see if they offer clinics and find out if you're eligible. It's also a good idea to do this as soon as possible as the clinics fill up quickly!

Additionally, many branches are offering various programs and workshops in the upcoming months on topics related to income tax. These are a great way to learn new tips or just to refresh your memory from last year. Tax rules change often so it's great to stay on top of them to be able to fill out your return in the best way possible!

Last, but definitely not least, below are a few books for you to check out from your library focusing on the area of Canadian tax planning:
