Information Services Spotlight: Consumer Reports
Looking for shopping tips during this season? How about a 2016 holiday gift guide? Don't forget to use Consumer Reports Online before you shop!
Consumer Reports Online is a database published by an independent non-profit organization which provides evidence-based product testing in addition to ratings and recommendations on consumer products and services.
This online version of Consumer Reports Online is not a full duplication of the print magazine; it reproduces only about half of the articles. If you are looking specifically for Canadian content, click Canada Extra under the heading Our Site at the bottom of the page.
This resource also includes articles and buying guides on hundreds of products including cars, electronics, appliances and more. A typical results screen includes a product overview, summary of the products, ratings, recommendations, recent reviews, a buying guide and news. It also includes videos and blogs noting product strengths and weaknesses.
For tips on how to use Consumer Reports Online, watch TPL's Video Tutorial or consult the Consumer Reports Information Sheet for a quick guide.
To access online, an active Toronto Public Library card is required or use a library computer at any TPL branch. If you have any further questions, call Answerline at 416-393-7131.
