2020 Scotiabank Giller Shortlist Announced
The shortlist for this year's Scotiabank Giller Prize was announced on October 5. The annual literary award has traditionally celebrated Canadian fiction and short story collections. This year 3 novels and 2 short story collections are nominated. The 14 stories in How to Pronounce Knife by Souvankham Thammavongsa share the experiences and struggles of Lao immigrants as they adjust to their new lives in North America. Here the Dark is Davvid Bergen's first short story collection in a number of years. These stories explore the grey areas in life that aren't as simple as good and evil or right and wrong.

The winner will be revealed on November 9. It is the most lucrative literary prize in Canada. Each of the authors on the shortlist receives $10,000 and the winner takes home $100,000.
