2021 update: Sidewalk Labs has stopped supporting OldTO and the map is unavailable. Try our interactive map of Toronto neighbourhoods to explore digitized items from TPL.

Close to 4,000 images from the Toronto Public Library's Digital Archive have been added to the  website at

Earlier this year, Sidewalk Labs collaborated with the City of Toronto Archives and used their image data to create a clickable map of Toronto to highlight digital images from their collections.

OldTO is an open-source map tool created by Sidewalk Labs that provides block-by-block browsing of historic Toronto photographs.  What better way to browse Toronto historical photographs and maps than on a virtual map of the city!

Toronto Public Library was keen to participate and reached out to Sidewalk Labs, who were very open and looking for other Toronto memory institutions to participate in this venture.

In very little time, they had incorporated close to 4,000 images from TPL's Digital Archive, merging multiple collections into one great resource.

TPL hopes to add more content to the OldTO map over time.
