Teen Review: The Amazing Story of Adolphus Tips
Review by Alexandra
The Amazing Story of Adolphus Tips is a great book about how World War II affects Lily Tregenza, starting from her adolescence through her whole life, including her loves, remembrances, sadnesses and joys.
A boy nicknamed “Boowie” receives a childhood diary from his Grandma Lily. Lily, her cat Tips, her friend Barry and her family are living a normal life at their farm until the war strikes their seaside village of Slapton. Their village is going to be used as a practice zone, so they are forced to move to Uncle George’s home. They are already depressed, but then the adored Tips suddenly disappears! Everyone searches in every room, every shed, every cupboard. Lily is absolutely DETERMINED to find Tips so, despite the barbed wire, everyone’s advice and the DANGER and WARNING signs, she goes back into the restricted zone again and again. She keeps looking and looking, but no luck.
Read the book to find out if and/or how they find Tips and what happens as a result.
