Step into someone else’s shoes

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be the Executive Director of an Art Gallery or a newspaper reporter for a local paper? Well here is your chance to walk in someone else’s shoes.

Parkdale Branch is having a special collection of human books as part of the Library Settlement Partnership Day celebration.  The human books are recent or established immigrants to Canada who are going to share their experiences. You can sign out a human book for a one-on-one conversation in a quiet place in the library.

Meet Phil Anderson, the Executive Director of Gallery 1313 and Erin Hartfield a writer for the local Parkdale paper. Take a journey around the world with Ainsley Kendrick or meet Suzette Kennepohl a teacher who works with immigrant communities. Sail off on a documentary about a Somali Pirate with Kaizer Matsumunyane. Or find out how to start a successful business with Sean McKay. Meet Roy Mitchell the host of RoyNation. Or talk to Jelbert Real about the process he went through to get his credentials recognized in Canada. Check out the full list of books.

The Newcomer Human Library will take place on Saturday October 20th from 1 to 4 p.m. You can book an appointment by visiting the Parkdale Branch or calling 416-393-7686.
