Toronto Public Library Board Continues to Seek a Negotiated Settlement

March 1, 2012 | Media Relations | Comments (0) Facebook Twitter More...

Toronto (March 1, 2012)  – The Toronto Public Library Board today received notification of a “No-Board” report as requested by Toronto Public Library Workers’ Union CUPE Local 4948 and granted by the Ontario Ministry of Labour. Although the request for a "No Board" report is a normal part of the collective bargaining process, it means that the parties will be in a legal strike/lockout position as of one minute after midnight on Sunday, March 18, 2012.

The library is continuing to bargain in good faith and is committed to a successful resolution of all issues.  Meetings are scheduled over the next few weeks and we expect negotiations to continue as planned. In the meantime, it is business as usual at the library.

Toronto Public Library is committed to negotiating a settlement that is fair and reasonable to employees and affordable to the residents of Toronto. During negotiations the library does not comment on the subjects being discussed at the bargaining table. The library has a contingency plan which will be released to the public if a work stoppage appears imminent.
