Chag Sameach!

This Saturday marks the celebration of Tikkun Leil Shavuot, a Jewish cultural festival celebrating the festival of Shauvot. The springtime holiday of Shavuot commemorates the moment that the ancient Israelites received the Torah at Mount Sinai.

In anticipation of the revelation, members of the Jewish community who observe this festival stay up all night. The organizers of Tikkun Leil Shavuot in downtown Toronto call it an all-night learning festival where people stay up to study, sing, snack and mingle.

Did you know the Toronto Public Library has a variety of resources to support Jewish communities in Toronto?  We have over 700 materials in Yiddish, and over 2,800 materials in Hebrew. This includes books, eBooks, audiobooks, movies, music and magazines!

Here are some titles for children you might enjoy in preparation for the holiday:

The Art Lesson A Shavuot Story   Here is the World - A Year of Jewish Holidays    A Mountain of Blintzes   Yossi and the Monkeys A Shavuot Story

And here are some for adults:

Inviting God in : celebrating the soul-meaning of the Jewish holy days    Seasons of our joy : a modern guide to the Jewish holidays

If you are celebrating, we hope it is a time of learning and growing! Chag Sameach!
