Family Day weekend is around the corner, and what better way to celebrate than with some fun, free activities in the city?  If you will be spending it with your family, you might be looking for some family-friendly things to do. Toronto Public Library will have lots of family-friendly programming all weekend long. Check out our Programs for Kids and Families and Movie Programs happening at different library branches in the city.

There will also be lots of free outdoor and indoor activities provided by the City of Toronto. Select community centres, skating rinks and pools will have family-friendly programming for Family Day. Or how about visiting a local park for some good ol' winter fun! Tobogganing, anyone?

So what is Family Day anyway?

In 2007, the provincial government established this February holiday.  Premier Dalton McGuinty promised that, if elected, he would establish a provincial holiday in February.  A decade later, families across Canada enjoy Family Day weekend as a welcome break during the cold winter months. It has different names in other provinces such as Louis Riel Day (Manitoba), Islander Day (PEI) and Nova Scotia Heritage Day (Nova Scotia).  I myself am going to try going technology-free this weekend. Taking my dog for a brisk winter walk, and spending some time playing board games with my family, will be a few of my activities, along with curling up with a good book of course!

Here are some great titles if you are looking for activities to do with your family:
