MAP Family Saturdays - Spring 2012

Map_buttonThe popular MAP Family Saturdays series of family programs returns this spring!

If you haven't had the opportunity to experience what our museum partners have to offer, here's your chance! On Saturdays in May, visit your local library for crafts, games, artifacts and activities from Toronto's top attractions. Programs last one hour and suit kids 5-12 and their caregivers. Some branches require pre-registration. Call or visit the branch for more information.

 

Visit Gerrard/Ashdale and Queen/Saulter, where Todmorden Mills Heritage Site (Toronto Historic Museum) will give a hands-on demonstration on how kids lived and played a hundred years ago in Toronto. Also, create a take home craft.

  Paintbrush
Create artwork inspired by Pablo Picasso, one of the 20th century's most inventive and influential artist, with the Art Gallery of Ontario at Annette Street.  

Shoe

 

Have you ever wanted to feel a sealskin boot or touch a shoe made from a tire? Join us at Danforth/Coxwell and Leaside where the Bata Shoe Museum will share the stories behind some museum objects and how to make your own shoe-shaped magnet craft.

  Yarn

How does the wool on a sheep's back turn into a woolen shawl or sweater? Help Black Creek Pioneer Village staff tease, card and finger spin wool at Parkdale and McGregor Park.

Clay

 

From Mexican dogs to vessels and figures. You can make so much out of clay. Professional ceramic artists from the Gardiner Museum will show you how to make an imaginative clay dragon at Sanderson and Richview. Make sure you bring your imagination!

 

The Museum of Inuit Art will be bringing in genuine museum artifacts, also earn to play traditional Inuit games and make your own piece of art at Dufferin/St. Clair and Don Mills .

Cloth

 

Maria A. Shchuka and Guildwood library will host the Textile Museum of Canada, where you can learn about how cloth is made and make your very own colourful bookmark.

 

Scarborough Museum (Toronto Historic Museum) presents the Early Settler Experience. Enjoy games, toys and stories as you discover Scarborough's past at Victoria Village branch.
