Stream Some Noise - September 2017
When the Local Music Collection was started back in 2006, the idea of streaming music to your phone sounded more like science-fiction more than reality. (Remember what iPods looked like in 2006?) The collection is still acquiring new CDs from local and Canadian musicians, but we're also aware that more and more people are using streaming services to listen to music, discover new artists and create playlists.
As music-loving librarians, the chance to curate streaming playlists was an opportunity we couldn't resist! Every month the Make Some Noise team will be putting together a playlist of ten songs that we have been listening to on repeat.
This month features 2017 Polaris Prizer winner (and Torontonian!) Lido Pimienta, new music from previous Live in the Stacks bands Weaves and Alvvays, and seven other awesome songs! Have a listen and leave a comment with the local music you've been obsessing over.
If you prefer CDs, you can find "Bad Luck" by Royal City on Alone at the Microphone or Royal City 1999-2004 and "Silver Velvet" by The Courtneys on II. You can also use your library card to get access to streaming music on Hoopla. Happy listening!
