Awaiting Lemony Snicket's next series

A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket (a pen name for writer Daniel Handler) introduced readers to the Baudelaire children and their evil uncle Count Olaf over 13 popular volumes. Throughout the series Snicket acts as the narrator, stepping in, here and there, with hilarious comments about what’s happening in the story and to explain difficult words with witty definitions. Eventually Snicket makes the leap from narrator to become a character in the story.

Teachers and educators will find many great opportunities to explore the concept of narrator, character, authorship and point of view in this series. But for children, this blurring of narrator, character and author helps to demystify the process of writing a story. If children can imagine themselves as a character or the narrator of a story, this can help motivate them and give them a sense of power in creating their own stories.

After writing his own “unauthorized biography” in 2003, Snicket returns to autobiography with a brand new series called All the Wrong Questions.  In this series, Snicket is a 13-year old amateur investigator who is recruited into a mysterious organization that isn’t supposed to exist. Expect the same kind of wit, wordplay and all around silliness.
