Scott's Directories is a directory of Canadian businesses. It can be useful for marketing campaigns. Example 1: a business wants to direct a campaign at businesses with over 50 employees within a certain area of Toronto. Example 2: a business want to market its products and services to other businesses celebrating an anniversary.

Example 1. Marketing to businesses within a certain area  Menu of filters

Step 1. Go to Scott's (tpl.ca/scotts) and sign in with your library card number and PIN (normally the last four numbers of your phone number).

Step 2. Click on "Postal Code" in the "Geographic" section of the vertical menu of filters. Then:

  1. select Ontario
  2. select a postal code and click on the green "Select" button to transfer it to the search box on the right. Repeat to include more than one postal code
  3. click on the green "Search" button

The results show businesses (in alphabetical order by name) in the selected postal code area(s).

Step 3. Click on "Number of Employees" in the "Demographic" section of the filters menu. Select "Greater Than or Equal To" and enter 50 in the value box. Then click on the search button.

The results now show businesses located in the selected postal code area(s) with 50 or more employees.

Click on the name of a business for contact information. Click on "Summary View" under "View Manager" at the top of the page for a spreadsheet view of selected fields in the company profile. Click on "Go to Summary View Setting" to select which fields display. The print option allows you to print only what shows on the screen, not the entire list of businesses.

Example 2. Marketing to businesses celebrating anniversaries

Step 1. Go to Scott's (tpl.ca/scotts) and sign in with your library card number and PIN. Or, if you've already been searching in Scott's, click on "New Search" under "Search Manager" at the top of the page.

Step 2. Click on "Year Established" in the "Demographic" section of the filters menu. Select "Equal To" and enter a year in the value box, e.g. 1993 for businesses celebrating their 25th anniversary in 2018. Then click on the search button.

You may filter the results by location using the "Geographic" section of the filters menu.
