Man Booker Shortlist Announced

Finalists for the 2012 Man Booker Prize were announced earlier today.This literary prize, considered one of the most prestigious in the world, is open to writers from the Commonwealth countries, Ireland and Zimbabwe. The best known title on the shortlist is Bring Up the Bodies by Hilary Mantel, the second book in her trilogy about Thomas Cromwell. The first book in the series, Wolf Hall, won the award in 2009.

The finalists are:

Narcopolis
Swimming home
Will-self-umbrella

Bring Up the Bodies by Hilary Mantel

The Garden of Evening Mists by Tan Twan Eng

The Lighthouse by Alison Moore
    (not available in Canada at this time)

Narcopolis by Jeet Thayil

Swimming Home by Deborah Levy

Umbrella by Will Self

The winner will be announced on October 16.
